Drs. Ron Waksman and Spencer King discuss the social justice protests that have swept the U.S. and the world. Dr. King remembers growing up in the Jim Crow South and the fact that even a century after the Civil War, integrating society continued to be a struggle. He expresses hope that the current movement will result in lasting change because of its magnitude and the involvement of politicians to a degree not seen after similar protests in recent years. Drs. King and Waksman also note that more journal articles concerning racial disparities in medicine have been published, which Dr. King says is a natural response of researchers trying to incorporate current events into their manuscripts.
